Selected Board To Order
2S
In the 1980s, professional surfer Ricardo Martins, unhappy with some of his competitive results and the judging criteria of the time, decided to rethink his main competition surfboard. The goal was to get more performance from small waves and create enough space to link three or four maneuvers per ride.
The results were immediate. Ricardo reached two consecutive finals in OSP (Professional Surfers Organization) events. That board would forever change his understanding of what a high-performance surfboard for small waves could be.
At the time, he shortened his usual board by three inches, flattened the rocker to generate greater speed, and increased the overall surface area to improve paddle power, wave entry, flotation, and stability. He also introduced double wings, reducing the tail area to allow for sharper, more controlled turns. Wings were widely used in that era to break the outline and loosen the board.
Today's 2S is a reinterpretation of that experience. Designed for high performance in small, weak waves, its design resulted in an extremely compact surfboard. We highlight the bold combination of a low-curve rocker with a bottom contour that features a single concave in the entry, a pronounced double concave through the center, and a vee bottom out the tail.
Another key factor in the 2S's performance under challenging conditions was the outline design, which carries plenty of area in both the nose and tail. Stability and flotation were essential in a board that is so fast and short. In practical terms, the "turbo" is engaged from the first paddle stroke - earlier wave entry, instant speed. Because it is purpose-built for small, weak waves, the 2S generates speed and creates room for maneuvers where an all-around board simply can't.
To unlock the full high-performance potential of the 2S, it should be ridden 3 to 4 inches shorter than your everyday board, with increased volume. Size selection should be directly linked to surfing level: the higher the level, the shorter the board. This same logic applies to surfers who are not in peak physical condition - in that case, the 2S can be ridden in the same length as their regular daily board.
